He became acquainted with recycled materials at a young age while growing up in Bawku, a town in northern Ghana. Rufai uses his artistic works to champion issues of sustainability in an era marked by requests to reduce carbon footprints and mitigate climate change. With his focus on addressing local and global environmental concerns, Rufai uses recycled plastics and synthetic materials
