Each earring is set with a (real) scarab beetle, punctuated by two pearls. They're crafted in 9 karat yellow gold throughout, made during the 19th Century's second wave of Egyptomania inspired by the completion of the Suez canal in 1869. These green scarabs, chosen because people would associate them with ancient Egypt, were more than likely imported from South
